DIY Bathroom Installation

Do you want to install a toilet? The installation of a bathroom implies having some knowledge about the connection and the evacuation.

Be careful; the installation is different if it is a macerator toilet.

Everything depends on the situation in which you find yourself installing a toilet. If you have a DIY project, this post has what you need to read before you get going.

The installation of the toilet does not have to be redone.

This is the case if the toilet is installed on a vertical evacuation in the floor (model with a hidden rear central CA outlet or S from underneath) or a horizontal evacuation in the wall (model with a rear H outlet) under your installation.

You do not have to intervene at the water inlet: the installation is simple.

The drainage system of the new toilet is different from the old one

It would help if you, therefore, modify it: this work is consequential and impacts the structure of the building itself.

Unless you are skilled in the field, it is strongly advised to call a professional.

Installing a floor toilet is not complicated.

The installation of a floor-mounted toilet involves:

– fixing the bowl and the adjoining tank,

– the connection to the drain and the water supply.

Only a few tools are needed: a flat screwdriver, a wrench, a spirit level, and an electric drill.

Here are the steps to follow:

Installing a floor-mounted toilet

Assembling the bowl

Place the toilet on the floor in the appropriate location to the drain.

Locate the holes to be drilled on the floor: in a replacement toilet, some old holes may be suitable.

Drill the holes (diameter 10 mm).

– In the tile: choose screws and plugs of at least 7 cm length to anchor the whole at the lower level of the tile,

– in a floor: 5 cm length is enough,

– in concrete or masonry: special plastic plugs are required,

Some shapes of bowl feet require drilling holes at an angle, taking special care to drill at the same angle, and weakening the porcelain as little as possible.

Place the bowl and connect it to the drain.

To do this, push the outlet of the bowl into the sleeve provided.

Check that the bowl is horizontal.

Rubber pads may be stuck under the foot or injected putty.

Screw the screws into the dowels.

– If these screws do not have a synthetic collar, insert a plastic washer between the screw and the porcelain,

– Do not overtighten them, as this may crack the porcelain.

Then make a silicone seal between the bowl and the floor.

Mounting the tank

Place the tank on the toilet and connect it with the two bolts.

Don’t forget the rubber washers that ensure the water tightness between the bowl and the tank.

Mounting the toilet seat

The seat is attached with two bolts, butterfly nuts, sealing washers, and protective caps.

Installing a toilet: how to remove the old bowl?

When replacing an existing toilet bowl, it is necessary to remove it before installing the new one.

Before proceeding with the following steps, close the water inlet valve and empty the tank:

Removing the tank

Disconnect the water supply from the tank.

Unscrew the bolts that secure the tank to the bowl.

Disassembling the bowl

Unscrew the screws that hold the toilet bowl to the floor.

Hit the bowl with a plastic sledgehammer or chisel to loosen it from the floor (it is often held in place with sealant).

Carefully remove the bowl from the drain; again, you may find some putty.

Temporarily seal the pipe with a rag or a paper ball to avoid foul odors.
